Parsha 3

Shalom and welcome to the Parsha in 60 seconds Today’s portion is from Genesis 12:1 – 17:27 it is called Lech Lechah which means “Go!” God tells Abram to leave home for a land that God would show him. So Abram, Sarai, and his nephew Lot, hit the road. Due to a famine, Abram went down to Egypt. Because Sarai was drop dead gorgeous Abram was afraid that the pharaoh would kill him and take her. so he said she was his sister, half/truth. Pharaoh took Sarai as his wife and God afflicted Pharaoh with mighty plagues. As a result pharaoh sent them away. Abram and Lot decided to split the land and Lot choose the side with the greener grass. Lot was kidnapped. Abram rescued Lot Rambo style. Abram met Melchizedek the priest king and was blessed. The Word of God appeared to Abram made him count the stars and promised him that many offspring. 10 years later still no children, so Abram slept with Hagar the maid and Ishmale was born. God appeared to Abram and changed his name to Abraham. God commanded that all males under the covenant be circumcised. God renamed Sarai to Sarah, telling him that Sarah would bear Abraham a son, and Abraham was to name him Isaac. God blessed Ishmael as well and promised to make him exceedingly numerous. But God would maintain the covenant with Isaac. That same day, Abraham circumcised himself, Ishmael, and every male in his household, as God had directed. And that is Lech Lechah in 60 seconds.

Parsha 2 Noach (Noah) Rest נֹחַ

Parsha in 60 Seconds Presents

Parsha 2

Shalom and welcome to the Parsha in 60 seconds Today’s portion is from Genesis 6:9-11:32 it is called Noah Noah was a righteous man and walked with God. He had three sons. God saw that the world had gone bad. God tells Noah to build an ark because God would cause a flood. During the building process, all the people TROLLED him. When the flood came Noah, his family and all the animals were in the ark and God shut them in. The rains fell 40 days and 40 nights, the waters destroyed all life and 150 days later the waters receded. God made a covenant that never again would a flood destroy the earth and set the rainbow in the clouds as a sign. Noah planted a vineyard, got wasted and was naked within his tent. Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father’s nakedness and told his two brothers. Shem and Japheth placed a cloth on their father, without seeing their father’s nakedness. When Noah woke up he cursed Ham’s son Canaan to become the lowest of slaves to Japheth and Shem. Noah lived to the age of 950 and then died. Several generations later the earth was populated by many nations. Everyone on earth spoke the same language and they all decided to make a huge tower. God confounded their speech, so that they could not understand each another, and scattered them over the face of the earth. Thus the city was called Babel. Nine generations after Shem, Abram married Sarai. Sarai was barren. Abram’s father relocated them to Haran and died. And that is Noah in 60 seconds.

 Parsha 53: Ha’azinu הַאֲזִינוּ‎ (Listen)  ‎‎‎

Parsha in 60 Seconds Presents Ha’azinu

Parsha 53

Shalom and welcome to the Parsha in 60 seconds Today’s portion is from Deuteronomy 32:1-52 it is called Haazinu which means “listen” Moses asked that his speech be like rain and dew for the grass and proclaims that God is perfect and his children unworthy. Moses reminds the Israelites that God chose the them as God’s own people. God found the Israelites in the desert and watched over them like an eagle on his nest. God would give the Israelites everything and like spoiled children they would abandoned God for false-gods and demons. So God will hide himself from them and bring judgment among them but would not wipe them out. When other nations would come against Israel thinking that their own might was causing Israel’s judgment, God would rise up and avenge the servants of God. That day would be a great day of judgment and cleansing. Moses and Joshua recited all these words as a poem to the people. When Moses finished reciting, he told them to take his warnings to heart and teach their children, for it was very serious and their very lives were at stake. Moses then climbs Mount Nebo and to see the land of Canaan and die because he had struck the rock to produce water in the wilderness of Zin, failing to uphold God’s sanctity among the Israelite people. And that is Haazinu in 60 seconds.

Parshah 52: Vayelekh (And He Went) וַיֵּלֶךְ

Parsha in 60 Seconds Presents Vayelech

Parsha 52

Shalom and welcome to the Parsha in 60 seconds Today’s portion is from Deuteronomy 31:1-30 it is called Vayelech which means “then he went out” It is Moses 120th birthday and go in or come out. Crossing the Jordan River was not an option for Moses. God would destroy the nations ahead of them with Joshua. God would destroy the nations just like he did with the kings of the Amorites. Moses exhorted the Israelites and Joshua to be strong and courageous, for God would go with them and would not forsake them. Moses wrote the law and delivered it to the priests, the sons of Levi, who bore the Ark of the Covenant and to all the elders of Israel. Every seven years during Sukkot, all Israel was to appear in the place that God would choose and read the Law. As Moses is about to die from old age, God instructs Moses to call Joshua so that God can bless him. God appeared in a pillar of cloud over the door of the Tent and tells Moses that he was about to die, the people freak out and rebel. To stop this rebellion God directed Moses to write a song and teach it to the Israelites so that the song might serve as a witness for God against the Israelites. After the song and law was written Moses commanded the Levites who bore the Ark of the Covenant to take the book and put it by the side of the Ark so that it might serves as a witness against the people. Moses knew that even that day, the people had been rebelling against God. Moses knew that after his death, the Israelites would deal corruptly and turn away from the commandments, and evil would befall them because they would do that which was evil in the sight of God. And Moses spoke to all the assembly of Israel the words of the song. And that is Vayelech in 60 seconds.
