Parsha in 60 Seconds Presents Shlach

Parsha 37

Shalom and welcome to the Parsha in 60 seconds Today’s portion is from Num. 13:1-15:41 it is called Shlach which means “Send” So God tells Moses to send one from each of the 12 tribes of Israel to scout the land of Canaan. Among the scouts were Caleb and Joshua. They enter the land and cut down a branch with a huge cluster of grapes as well as some pomegranates and figs. They report to Moses that the land is very good. 10 of the spies claim there are giants in the land while Joshua and Caleb agree that it’s no big deal. The people freak out and try to stone the leaders when all of a sudden God shows up and complains about the people to Moses. God threatens to strike them with pestilence. But instead God pardons them and commands them to wander for 40 years. After being commanded to go back into the wilderness a small group decide to take on the land without God. They fail God tells Moses how to do flour and oil sacrifice and how to make an offering for accidental sin A man violates the Shabbat by gathering sticks, and is put to death. God tells Moses to use string as a reminder to keep the laws, today these strings are known as Tzit tizt And that is Shelach in 60 seconds
